Summary of the week

Anemones and snakes head fritillarias, Oxford
Big news of the week is that Mr Prue has taken his last antibiotic of the six month course. It's been making him feel unwell for the last few weeks so he's feeling pleased right now :)

Almost as big news is that we've got someone to dig out all the old shrubs in the front garden. They've gone and there are just holes left. Next is digging it over and removing all the weeds. Having someone to help has given me huge motivation to get into the garden and start catching up on all the jobs that didn't get done last year.

I knew the garden was important to me. Until yesterday's progress I hadn't realised just how important. I felt all sorts of things but generally had a feeling of well-being that has been missing for the past eighteen months. Lots of clearing weeds today in the back garden, and digging over the beds in the herb garden. It was so nice to feel the sun on my back. And Mr Prue was out there too, well enough to prune the roses.

Looking out of the front window earlier today, I saw a blackbird fly into the bush at the side of the house. It's right next to the window so I got a great view of lots of little beaks opening to be fed :)
There were comma and peacock butterfliews flitting around; and all the leaves were opening on the trees -- that beautiful early-spring bright green.

We've both got next week as holiday so fingers crossed for another sunny day tomorrow. Rain forecast for Tuesday. That's ok as there's an exhibition of Gainsborough's paintings at Compton Verney we'd like to see.

And now I'm off to run Deep Heat into my aching shoulders. All this gardening is using muscles I'd forgotten I possessed :D

I just love the snake's head fritillarias. They are so delicate. Those in our garden are just beginning to open. It's a great time of year!

  5. What a pretty picture you paint with your description of the garden. Sounds like spring is bringing renewal in more ways than one.
It's especially good to hear about Mr Prue's recovery!
