Sunny Sunday Summary -- on Tuesday

An early heatwave has hit the UK and the few days warm weather has worked wonders on the garden plants -- including weeds! We didn't do much gardening last year because of Mr Prue's poor health so the garden is looking pretty awful right now.

With limited time, I'm trying to do jobs which will be a 'one-off' so they'll stay done for quite a while (unlike weeding!) plus a bit of tidying up. First off was to sort out our compost bins. Five of them (we have a large garden).

The bins are so old that the wooden planks are rotting. Last weekend -- and the reason why I didn't do a Sunday blog -- I emptied four of the bins, bagged the useable compost, put the rest on a large plastic sheet and dismantled what was left of the rickety bins.

One bin on the left has already gone.

After sourcing wooden pallets on the Internet, there are 16 of them waiting to be painted with wood preservative. I've done four so far and this coming weekend they'll be used to construct a new bin.

Eventually the five old bins will be replaced with four larger bins.

It never fails to amaze me how all the garden and vegetable kitchen waste can go in a heap, and eventually turn into beautiful compost. It's awesome. Lets have a cheer for the bacteria, fungi and worms that do such amazing work :)

  1. I love the picture and am looking forward to seeing the finished project! Sounds like a lot of work, but the kind that makes for a good night's sleep afterwards. :) I'm sure it will be lovely when it's done.

Take care of yourself and Mr. Prue!

  2. Well done, you. My garden has gone to rack and ruin since my illness. It saddens me to see it so overgrown and neglected.

Looking forward to more photos of your flower filled garden in the summer, Prue.

    1. Hiya Lynda. It's horrible to watch a garden become overgrown isn't it? I'm determined to get ours back to what it was.

Don't be fooled...I have some of the ideas and do some of the work. It's my husband who is green-fingered :D
